Only 9 kms north of Taupo township, we are able to take advantage of Taupo facilities the AC Baths are 7 minutes away , but at the same time have the pleasures of a country school. Wairakei Primary School is about learning for everyone, children, parents and teachers. We aim to accomplish the primary goal of a passion for learning, a desire to learn and a capability and confidence to learn. families located closer to Taupo in Nukuhau, Rangatira and extending into central Taupo. The educational team at Wairakei Primary School lead the academic aim to provide an enriched, interesting curriculum that meets our students needs to prepare them for future learning.
We actively value and promote open communication in the belief that strong positive home school partnerships, with parents and teachers working together will enable our children to achieve their full potential. Thus the Wairakei community life began, and part of this life was the establishment of Wairakei Primary School. to the Education Board! 1964 February After much consideration by the Committee and a lot of correspondence with the Education Board yet again , tree planting began on the Southern Boundary. 1988 July Twelve native trees to be planted in gully on 12 July.
April Home and School Association becomes the PTA Parent Teachers Association . We have had two children come through Wairakei School from the start of their schooling lives and this is the last year for our youngest. The support from all the teachers and support staff has been outstanding and the children have thoroughly enjoyed their time spent there. By the end of this year we will have completed our 9th consecutive year at Wairakei Primary School. While learning to be part of a team is an important aspect of school life, encouraging unique creativity and individuality is also honoured and supported.

Concurrently work also began on the building of the Aratiatia hydro power station. Thus the Wairakei community life began, and part of this life was the establishment of Wairakei Primary School. The School Committee which was made up of 7 members and was chaired by Mr Tiller allocated 5 to Mr Davies to purchase incidentals and 50 for books.
1963 February The rolls has risen to 324 pupils and there were eight teachers. to the Education Board! 1964 February After much consideration by the Committee and a lot of correspondence with the Education Board yet again , tree planting began on the Southern Boundary. The School Committee had favoured a paling fence which would have been an immediately effective wind break. September The construction of the swimming baths commenced August Native tree planting by pupils at the Aratiatia Lake an 1968 February Vice Regal visit to Taupo.
Eleven children from Wairakei received medical attention because of the extreme heat. 1972 July Silver birch tree moved from bus shelter site by School Committee members, to a position in front of Dental Clinic. August The Home and School Associations Adventure Tower Project got under way with the first of many working bees. He spoke to quite a large number of children, an occasion they will never forget.
1985 The Home and School Association met to discuss should children now being to be introduced to computer, keyboard and programming skills? Good numbers! 1988 July Twelve native trees to be planted in gully on 12 July. April Mrs Val Mansfield, Office istrator wrote her first Home and School Association minutes! Education Board notified they will build another bay onto the Library a new resource room for the school. Other News PTA Fundraiser Golf Tournament Class Visit Study on Power Station Well Drilling Robyn McPherson set up sewing day to make new rugby jerseys for the school. Discussion on Home and School Association and BOT to join as School Council.
